CHARLES B. HUBBARD

Charles B. Hubbard Pioneer Passed Away at 85 Years

When such pioneers as Charles B. Hubbard, the type of citizens who built this America from the ground up, when such men pass on over the river to rest, they deserve more than just a passing mention of the usual obituary. As Rev. Howard, the minister, said in his funeral serman, these characters of the honest, law abiding, pioneer citizens are what made the foundation for the great country that has come of today, and they deserve much credit; we should honor their memory. As the minister said, they have left their influence in the world that will live on forever; and this could not be more definitely pictured than when one saw the five stalwart sons, and one grandson, bearing the casket of the father who had brought them up to be rugged, honest, worthy citizens. The obituary follows
Charles Burke Hubbard, son of Dr. John and Louisa Catherine Hubbard, was born near Houston, Mo. November 15, 1858, and passed away at his home August 11, 1944; making his age at time of death 85 years, 8 months, and 26 days. He had lived his entire life on the same farm he was born on in Texas County, Mo.
He was married to Miss Jeannie Cooper January 25, 1885. To this union nine children were born; four having preceeded him in death; Anna May, Alice, Hershell and Paul.
He is survived by his wife and five sons; Oscar of Chicago, Ill., John E. of Springfield, Mo.; Robert, of Raymondville, Mo., and Elmer of Bradleyville, Mo. Also sixteen grandchildren, three great grand children, and two brothes, F.P. Hubbard and Dr. R.P. Hubbard, of Houston, Mo.
He united with the Christian church Jan. 25, 1886. Mr. Hubbard had been in poor health for the past three years and had been patient all through his illness. He has always been a good friend and neighbor, never speaking ill of any one. His passing will be greatly missed by his wife, sons and the many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted at the Christian church in Houston, Sunday, August 13, by the Rev. Guy Howard. Music was furnished by Mrs. John Hailey and Miss Pauline Price, singing "Never Grow Old" and "In the GArden". Also a solo by the Rev. Carl Thompson, "The Old Rugged Cross" with Mrs. S.E. Ferguson as pianist.
Pallbearers were the five sons mentioned above with one grandson L.C. Hubbard. Burisl was in Houston cemetery under direction of Elliott Funeral Home of Houston.
