James H. Denison
From the 1889 Goodspeed History
James H. Denison, a prosperous young stock man, farmer, and native of Sherrill Township, Texas Co., Mo., was born on the 15th of January, 1854, receiving his education in the old subscription schools of early times, and being compelled to walk a distance of three miles to receive such instruction as could be obtained at that day. At the age of nineteen years he began the battle of life for himself, with no capital but a horse, saddle and bridle, but by industry and good management he has become the owner of 160 acres of valuable land, about seventy-five acres of which are under cultivation and well improved. On the 23d of October, 1873, he was married to Miss America E. Haggard, who was born in Texas County, Mo., August 21, 1857, and by her is the father of five children, whose names are as follows: Moletna F., Mary E., McCuin Z., James W. and Ceba C. Mr. and Mrs. Denison are members of the Christian Church, and he is a Democrat in politics. They have resided on their present farm since 1878, and are considered among the first citizens of the county.
